Welcome to 150 days of fearless writing

I hate to start a blog post with the ubiquitous, “Oh gosh, it’s been so long since my last post…”

So I won’t. 😉

The good news is I have been writing regularly and most of you know all about it. I’ve been writing a poem a day since January 1. That means as of yesterday I have written 215 short poems. More than half the year! #duh

That’s pretty impressive if I do say so myself, and yet….it’s not enough.

Getting personal on the regular

There are now 150 days left in the year. That’s a very nice number. Even. Symmetrical. Do-able.

Meaning, yes, I will continue the poem a day for the rest of the year.  I can’t stop now, having come so far.  But it’s also a do-able number for a new mini-challenge.

I’m not sure what to call it: 150 days of fearlessness. Fearless truth-telling. Or just plain Writing.

Not writing for work – not copy writing, ghostwriting, news writing, blogging, none of that.

Rather memoirs, personal essays, creative non-fiction, fiction…that kind of writing.

The more personal, intimate stuff.

Into the Abyss

I was at a social event not too long ago, and was talking to an acquaintence who has read some of my work – fiction, poems, and the like. This person said they read Pussy Has 9 Lives and it really impressed them. They asked if I was doing more writing like that.

I told them how I felt like I was on a precipice. That I had come so far with my writing – the freelancing journey, in particular – but that beyond the poem a day project I hadn’t done much personal writing.

I talked about how I felt like I need to jump – again.

I shouldn’t be afraid, I jump into the abyss all the time, right? And yet…this is the next frontier for me. I won’t call it “the last frontier” because I know myself well enough, and there will always be another frontier, obstacle, glass wall to break through.

For now, this is the one. As Glennon Doyle told Liz Gilbert in the Magic Lessons podcast I was listening to today, I am going to be a “shameless truthteller.”

Well, I am going to practice being a shameless truthteller, at least.

I’m not exactly sure how this is going to look, or how it will go, or how many typos and grammatical errors there will be…but I am going to do my best to show up every day. It might just be a paragraph’s worth, or it could be a lot more…I’m just going to take it as it comes.

So, here I go again!
